3RD PRESS RELEASE

TechUPGRADE launches stakeholder consultation to assess socio-economic impact of clean industrial heat innovation

Stakeholders from industry, public authorities, civil society, and academia invited to contribute by 30 April 2026

TechUPGRADE, has launched its Socio-Economic Impact Analysis stakeholder consultation. The consultation will remain open until 30 April 2026 and aims to gather perspectives from key stakeholder groups to help assess the project’s broader socio-economic, environmental, and policy implications.

Industrial heat remains one of the most challenging sectors to decarbonise, with many processes still dependent on fossil fuels. TechUPGRADE addresses this challenge by developing a thermochemical heat-upgrade technology designed to transform low-temperature heat—such as industrial waste heat, solar heat, or district heating—into higher-temperature heat suitable for industrial use, while keeping electricity demand low.

The stakeholder consultation is an essential part of TechUPGRADE’s impact assessment activities, ensuring that the project’s outcomes reflect real-world needs, barriers, and opportunities. The feedback will support a robust analysis of potential benefits such as improved energy efficiency, reduced emissions, enhanced competitiveness, and increased energy security, while also identifying adoption drivers, practical challenges, and enabling conditions.

Who should participate

TechUPGRADE welcomes input from:

  • Industrial stakeholders (manufacturing, process industries, energy managers, technology providers)
  • Public authorities (local, regional, national policy and energy agencies)
  • Civil society organisations (NGOs, citizens’ organisations, community representatives)
  • Academia and research stakeholders (universities, research centres, experts)

Participate: questionnaires by stakeholder group

Deadline: 30 April 2026

About TechUPGRADE

TechUPGRADE is a Horizon Europe Research and Innovation project aimed at creating a groundbreaking advanced thermochemical technology for waste heat recovery. Our solution efficiently recovers waste heat from industrial processes and upgrades it to temperatures ranging from 150-250°C.
